Hereke Rugs Hereke is a prosperous market town in Korfez district in Kocaeli province, Turkey. It is about 35 miles east by southeast of Istanbul on the northern shore of the Gulf of İzmit. Sultan Abdülmecid I created a traditional Imperial Workshop in Hereke in 1841.
